A Near Miss? Conservation and Mining challenges in the Gola Forest
Global Witness aims to promote improved governance and transparency in the natural resource sector to ensure that revenues accruing from resources such as oil, gas, mineral and forests are used for peaceful and sustainable development. In 2009 Global Witness visited Sierra Leone to look into recent allocations of mining licenses in the proposed Gola Forest National Park.
The Global Witness report is a comprehensive review of the situation and exposes weaknesses in the natural resource governance system in Sierra Leone and makes some tangible recommendations.
